☕ Morning fam,
Ketanji Jackson Brown. Yes I’m still on this. Chiiile. A black woman Supreme Court nominee, the first black woman Supreme Court nominee on the verge of joining the highest court in the land, the result of sacrifices made by many, many, many black women that came before her, women that at one time were viewed as 3/5ths a human being. Ketanji Brown’s response was disrespectful to them and should have automatically disqualified her… in no eyes more so than black women. It didn’t. Cori Bush stripping black women of their humanity by referring to black mothers as ‘birthing people’ should have elicited a similar response. It didn’t. That’s the genius, power and danger of black girl magic, it props black women up, makes them the face of white radical politics then uses them to push/impose agendas that go against the black collective, their children… even deny their own womanhood in exchange for a come up. And nobody calls this toxic.
