☕ Morning fam,
Keep an any on St. Louis, specifically what happens and doesn’t happen here in the aftermath of a years long federal investigation of City Hall and the County Council which has already resulted in indictments of the President of the BOA Lewis Reed, Aldermen Jeffrey Boyd, John Muhammad in the city and political appointee Tony Weaver in the city.
The indictments surprised no one, the region is still dealing with the fallout from Ferguson, millions squandered, years of false promises and the imposition of short sighted, not well thought out ‘reform ‘ with foreseeable consequences that made every issue reformers touched worse.
The same folks who fucked up in the first place, whose fuck ups resulted in blacks fleeing the city in such greet numbers the city’s population dropped to under 300,000 and is no longer majority. ‘Reform’ that ended in deaths, increased deaths and resulted in the region being named child murder capital. Those folks, want us to overlook the complete mess they made of things since Ferguson and lack of accountability for those failures and trust them to make things better.
They’re trying hard to get back to business as usual, except this isn’t business as usual. More indictments are to come. Members of the BOA haven’t been cleared but are already trying to move on and replace the indicted with people who have not been cleared by the feds, that rubberstamped the corruption exposed and/or turned a blind eye, all of which makes them unfit for office.
Reform in the St. Louis region should start with the reform movement, calling out and holding elected leaders, fake reformers, grifters and these predatory orgs accountable for the damage and carnage they make worse. Civilian review shouldn’t be limited to police shootings, it should also include oversight of elected leaders, clergy, activists and orgs that claim to be fighting for “We the People”.
No one or entity should be able to 1. impose their culture war on the community under the guise of reform and 2. not be held accountable for the results.
We are not collateral damage.
