Kim Gardner is officially out, but the investigation into her office continues with the MO State Auditor vowing to resume an audit of the Circuit Attorney’s Office during her tenure… and let it be known that his investigation of Kim Gardner didn’t end when AG Bailey dropped the case to remove her from office after her abrupt resignation earlier this week, 2 weeks earlier than originally planned.
Her abrupt resignation came after an ill conceived, nonbinding and potentially illegal ploy concocted by Gardner, Mayor Jones, County Prosecutor Wesley Bell and County Executive Sam Page where Gardner signed over her position/office to Wesley Bell, something that is illegal and goes against the state constitution which outlines how Gardner’ position is to be filled.
The governor’s office was quick to distance itself from this coup attempt stating AG Bailey would be holding the Circuit Attorney’s Office down until he announces Gardner’s replacement later today.
Time will tell if Gardner’s resignation is a new beginning. Or the beginning of the end.
