St. Louis continues its race to the bottom and back to the “representation” we had before Ferguson with its selection of a new police chief. Not only am I not surprise the new chief is a white man, a failed chief that received a vote of no confidence at his last job, I predicted the establishment Dem machine would use a black face to sell us everything from the new white woman President of the Board of Alderman to this failed new chief. And set their eyes on the mayor’s office after setting the mayor up for failure and ebbing away her black support. The plan is going as planned…
Notice how ‘representation’ no longer matters? The city completely overlooked Heather Thomas, a black woman who is from St. Louis, knows the police department, has been an advocate for change within, isn’t afraid to step on toes/shake things up and never received a vote of no confidence for her performance. She wasn’t just passed over, she wasn’t even in consideration.
After all the talbout black girl magic and how white men are the problem, we end up with worse power dynamics we had in the city before Ferguson, with less black ‘representation’ and population because black people are fleeing the city in droves.
Another fail, pushed as a win.
