The time is now, but the majority of us are either still waiting for somebody to come and save us even if that means imposing their will or they’re resigned t accept whatever fate comes our way as a result of opening doors/seeing shit coming and doing nothing. Think about how much of what we go through stems from the fact that we don’t have our own? That we rather try to exist in their spaces, subjecting ourselves to their will than build our own? No other group is keeping us from doing for us, they’re competing. Welcome to capitalism. Capitalism is everything we’re witnessing Kanye go through. Capitalism is the system that this government deemed your ancestors 3/5s of a human being and compensated slavemasters for loss of their slaves resulting from the Emancipation Proclamation.
Now factor in how many black people are loyal Democrats, pledging allegiance to the party of slavery and Jim Crow. And how much energy is wasted on reactionary action when the Dem Party shows us who they are. Too many of us still prefer marching, showing out and throwing temper tantrums over doing the things that would limit/loosen the grip and/or free from interference from whiteness.
Too many of us are defeated and are naysayers because in their teeny tiny world view, black empowerment is unattainable, believing everything the Dem Party and black misleaders told us was impossible, despite watching Trump and MAGA do all these things… Without mainstream social media, they built their own. Without mainstream media, they built their own… and are unapologetic about it.
Contrast that with rappers trying to play media moguls in their space and you get the shitshow we’ve been watching since Kanye’s interview on Drink Champs that has black billionaires and millionaires such as Lebron, Russell Simmons and Diddy rushing to put out this dumpster fire Kanye started for their handlers. And how many black people are triggered, are responding emotionally and willing to limit free speech, a right their ancestors also fought for because they don’t like the message/messenger.
This isn’t rocket science, it is our refusal to follow the guidance of our ancestors, those who fought this battle before us, that is the reason we find ourselves dealing with this conundrum: defend our first amendment rights which by default is viewed as a defense of Kanye’s statements or do nothing and have our First Amendment rights impeded.
