UN adopts Ghana’s slavery as “crime against humanity” resolution

On March 25, 2026, the United Nations General Assembly officially adopted a landmark resolution spearheaded by Ghana that recognizes the transatlantic slave trade as the “gravest crime against humanity”. The resolution passed with 123 votes in favor, 3 against (United States, Israel, and Argentina), and 52 abstentions (including the UK and all EU member states).
