Arcadia Mayor Eileen Wang, the first Chinese-born politician elected to the city council in the city’s 119-year history, has agreed to plead guilty to federal charges of acting as a covert foreign agent for the Chinese Communist Party. Wang campaigned as a Democrat, leaning hard on identity-first messaging, and was eventually sworn in as mayor — reciting an oath to defend against foreign enemies — while federal investigators were already closing in. Her then-fiancé, Yaoing ‘Mike Sun, had already been sentenced to 4 years in federal prison for operating a pro-CCP propaganda website and boosting the campaigns of unnamed Southern California politicians. Court documents reveal Wang received direct directives from PRC officials to post propaganda on a fake news site designed to look like a mainstream outlet. She denied Sun was her fiancé — until her own campaign video surfaced, calling him exactly that. Wang resigned following the charges. The voters elected her for what she was.
