White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will brief the press Friday afternoon as pressure grows on President Biden to issue more pardons before January.
Biden seemingly reversed course on Sunday and issued a controversial pardon for his son Hunter Biden. The move has rattled Washington and left lawmakers on both sides of the aisle questioning his reasoning and seeking more pardons — including one for President-elect Trump.
The White House is also considering if Biden should preemptively protect those who have been critical of Trump ahead of an incoming administration focused on retribution, a source familiar told The Hill.
The briefing also comes amid global tension — including an impeachment threat on South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol — a U.S. ally — after he declared martial law, and the ongoing wars in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
The event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EST.
