WE GREW UP IN HOMES WHERE OUR PARENTS EXPECTED AND DEMANDED US TO BE MORAL, JUST, CARING, SUPPORTIVE, GIFTED, TALENTED, SKILLFUL, GOOD CITIZENS, RESPECT FOR ALL, RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT WE DO AND DON’T DO, AND HOLD HIGH OUR BLACK VALUES, AND VILLAGE.
OUR PARENTS DEMANDED THAT WE HAD MANNERS AND UNDERSTOOD THAT WHEN WE WERE OUT, WE REPRESENTED THEM AND THE COMMUNITY AND THE CULTURE AND WE DID IT EXCEPTIONALLY.
WE WERE VILLAGE CHILDREN AND WERE EXPECTED TO BE STRONG MINDED AND THICK SKINNED.

WHITES CAME IN AND CONVINCED US IT WAS ALL ABUSIVE, MISUSING US, TOXIC AND DISRESPECTFUL AND THEY SHOULD BE AUTONOMOUS AND MAKE DECISIONS OVER THEIR OWN LIVES, BODIES AND DIRECTIONS WHILE AMERICA HASN’T SHIFTED.
