U.S. Democratic presidential contender Kamala Harris told a conference of black activists on Friday that, “When I am elected president,” she would sign a bill backing a study of reparations for descendants of slaves, at Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network conference in New York.
If nominated, Harris, a first-term senator from California, would make history as the first black woman to gain the Democratic party’s 2020 presidential nomination.
