Drawing from his scholarship Africana Studies and the Black Power Movement scholarship, Agyei Tyehimba makes the case that Malcolm X was to Black Studies what James Brown was to Soul Music. As the primary mentor and reference point for Black Power activists and intellectuals, Brother Malcolm’s ideas formed the political thrust and intellectual foundation of what would later be called “Black Studies” in the 1960s.
