Why Does White Supremacy Exist? | Dr. Frances Cress Welsing

Dr. Frances Cress Welsing proposed a controversial theory that the white race harbors a deep-seated fear of genetic annihilation by the black race. In her work, particularly in *The Isis Papers: The Keys to the Colors* (1991), Welsing argues that white supremacy is rooted in a subconscious fear of extinction due to the recessive nature of white skin. She posits that because black skin contains the dominant melanin gene, interracial relationships pose a threat to the survival of the white race, as the offspring of such unions would predominantly have darker skin. This fear, according to Welsing, drives the social, political, and economic structures that maintain racial inequality and white dominance. She further suggests that many aspects of Western culture, including its symbols and values, are expressions of this anxiety over racial survival.
