Chicago wants safer neighborhoods — but we have to have an uncomfortable conversation about policing.
We can hold bad cops accountable AND support good officers.
We can demand constitutional policing AND demand consequences for criminals.
And if millions of taxpayer dollars are going toward CVI and violence-prevention organizations, they should be held accountable for their results too.
My biggest question: If we complain that police don’t understand our neighborhoods, why do we demonize young people FROM those neighborhoods when they decide to become police officers?
Chicago doesn’t need more political extremes.
We need accountability across the board — police, criminals, politicians, nonprofits, pastors and everybody receiving taxpayer dollars in the name of public safety.
The bridges between law enforcement and the community have been burned for too long.
It’s time for new leadership, new mediators and new voices willing to tell BOTH SIDES when they’re wrong.
