Congressman Hank Johnson appeared on Roland Martin’s show and warned that if Black Americans fail to “fight back” and vote, we could end up “back in the cotton fields.”
Yes, he actually said it.
In this episode, I expose the insulting fear campaign behind this rhetoric. Black Americans are being told that without Democratic politicians, we will lose our jobs, our rights, our freedom—and apparently be marched straight back onto the plantation.
This is not empowerment. It is psychological manipulation.
Roland Martin, Hank Johnson, Jim Clyburn, and other Democratic leaders repeatedly invoke slavery, Jim Crow, and racial terror because they need Black voters to believe the Democratic Party is the only thing standing between them and white oppression. Their political power depends upon keeping Black America frightened, dependent, and obedient.
I also explain why government racial preferences are not a substitute for competition, why Republicans continue to struggle to communicate their own policies, and why freedom can never be entrusted to politicians.
Black Americans are not helpless. We are not political property. And no political party is our master.
