Jason Arday’s death is tragic. It should also compel serious questions about institutional responsibility, academic standards, and the danger of turning individuals into symbols for a political or cultural agenda.
Arday became Cambridge University’s youngest Black professor and was celebrated as an inspirational success story. He later resigned while facing unresolved allegations and renewed scrutiny concerning portions of his academic work, credentials, and public biography. Shortly afterward, he was found dead in London. Authorities described the death as unexpected but not suspicious; its cause has not been publicly confirmed.
In this episode, I examine the questions Cambridge must answer about its vetting process—and why diversity can never substitute for truth, excellence, character, or accountability.
I also honor my 84-year-old father, Dr. Ivy T. Ellison, who received an honorary doctorate recognizing a lifetime of Christian ministry and service to his community. His life reminds us of the principle found in Genesis 4:7: “If you do well, will you not be accepted?”
