The full Nolan Wells grand jury report is revealing what investigators say REALLY happened surrounding the 18-year-old’s disappearance and death — and several major claims that circulated online are directly addressed by the evidence.
A Jackson County grand jury unanimously returned NO TRUE BILLS, finding no credible evidence that anyone committed a crime connected to Nolan Wells’ death.
But the report goes much deeper.
The grand jury examined testimony from dozens of witnesses along with cellphone information, GPS data, security footage, marine navigation records, medical evidence, toxicology and other physical and digital evidence.
According to the report, GPS, surveillance and navigation data corroborated key accounts provided by the people who traveled to Horn Island.
The grand jury found no evidence that Nolan was involved in a physical altercation that day.
A sworn witness reported seeing Nolan awkwardly slip from the side of a boat around 3:30 p.m., although Nolan continued socializing afterward and did not appear to have suffered an obvious serious injury.
The report also confirms Nolan purchased alcohol using a fake ID and found no evidence that an adult over 21 supplied alcohol to Nolan or his friends.
Toxicology found NO cocaine in Nolan’s system.
The grand jury also addressed several viral narratives involving Nolan’s cellphone, photographs circulated online, the boats involved and claims that Nolan was the only Black person on Horn Island that day.
But there are still questions that the grand jury report does NOT completely resolve.
Both the Mississippi state medical examiner and the independent forensic pathologist retained by Nolan’s family classified his cause and manner of death as UNDETERMINED.
The circumstances surrounding the location and condition of Nolan’s body were found to be consistent with drowning, but drowning remains a diagnosis of exclusion.
The independent examination also documented recent blunt-force injuries involving the back of Nolan’s head and body.
The grand jury found no evidence that those injuries were fatal and could not definitively determine exactly how all of them occurred.
Now Nolan’s family and attorney Ben Crump are demanding that the investigation remain open, that additional investigative and medical records be released and that federal authorities review the case.
Meanwhile, separate federal cases have emerged involving alleged threats made against people connected to the Nolan Wells investigation.
