There’s a story out of East St. Louis right now — a whole family gone, including a 74-year-old elderly woman — and black YouTube is completely silent. But let a story come out where the person responsible isn’t black, and the same crowd is loud for weeks. So here’s the simple question: why do we only reserve our outrage for one kind of tragedy? The Angryman breaks down what he calls selective outrage — how we’ve been trained to only get upset when a black life is lost at the hands of a non-black person, and how you get labeled a sellout the second you point out what’s happening inside our own community. He gets into WHY people stay quiet (it’s not confusion, it’s shame), why folks get angrier at the messenger than at the actual foolishness, and the “out of sight, out of mind” thinking that lets it keep happening. He also makes the point nobody wants to hear: if pro-black logic says a life taken by an outsider is a tragedy, then a life taken by our own should bother us even more — not less. Then he reacts to a clip that says our culture is the reason people recoil from us — and explains, point by point, why the man didn’t tell a single lie: the shift away from the pastor, the entrepreneur, and the father as the men to aspire to, the blaxploitation era, the rise of gangster rap, the Thomas Sowell numbers on two-parent homes, and who he ultimately blames for how far the culture drifted.
