Governor J.B. Pritzker has also declined to commit to the proposal, emphasizing that Illinois must continue passing balanced budgets while acknowledging that discussions are still underway.
With the first day of school approaching, uncertainty remains over whether Springfield will approve additional funding, whether lenders will provide the financing CPS needs, and whether Chicago schools could face another fiscal emergency just as students return to class.
