“I’LL NEVER APOLOGIZE!” Chicago Mayor REFUSES Apology After Loyola Student Murder

An illegal migrant who entered the United States under the Biden administration has been charged with the murder of 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago student Sheridan Gorman, a case that has drawn national attention and intensified the immigration debate. According to reports, 25-year-old Venezuelan national Jose Medina allegedly approached Gorman and her friends near Chicago’s lakefront around 1:30 a.m. and fatally shot her while she attempted to flee. The suspect had previously been detained at the border in May 2023 but was released into the country, and was later arrested and released again in Chicago for a shoplifting offense. Prosecutors have charged Medina with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and multiple firearm-related offenses, with the possibility of life in prison if convicted. Authorities and federal officials have criticized policies that allegedly allowed the suspect to remain free despite prior encounters with law enforcement, as the tragic killing—described by friends as seemingly random—has sparked renewed scrutiny over border enforcement and sanctuary policies while Gorman’s family and community mourn her loss.

The case has also ignited political backlash in Illinois, as Governor J.B. Pritzker referred to the incident as “senseless violence,” a characterization that has drawn criticism online from those who argue the situation is far more significant given the suspect’s immigration status and prior release into the country. Critics contend the tragedy highlights deeper failures in immigration enforcement rather than an isolated act of violence. Meanwhile, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson faced questions over whether he would apologize to the victim’s family due to the city’s sanctuary policies, which some argue contributed to the suspect being allowed to remain in Chicago. Johnson declined to apologize, instead pointing out that those policies were already in place before he took office as mayor, further fueling debate over accountability and public safety in sanctuary jurisdictions.
