Josh Hawley confronted Postmaster General David Steiner during a Senate hearing over a shocking dumped mail investigation in St. Louis, Missouri.
Hawley showed a photo of thousands of pieces of undelivered mail dumped in a pile, including bills, tax documents, prescription drugs, utility notices, and letters that were only supposed to travel across town.
The USPS and the Postal Service had promised answers, transparency, and a full investigation after the dumped mail was discovered, but Hawley said months had passed with no clear accountability.
Then the Postmaster General said it was the first time he had heard about it.
That is when Hawley pressed him on the bigger Postal Service failure: slow mail delivery, missed on-time delivery targets, undelivered mail, St. Louis distribution problems, and Americans paying more while getting worse service.
The hearing got even worse when Hawley brought up executive bonuses.
He asked why Postmaster General leadership and Postal Service executives were still receiving bonuses while ordinary Americans were missing mail, prescriptions, tax documents, bills, and basic delivery deadlines.
Hawley then asked whether Steiner would refuse bonuses until the mail actually gets delivered.
The Postmaster General did not give the answer Hawley wanted.
By the end of the exchange, Hawley told him that if things do not get better, he ought to resign.
This was not just a USPS delay hearing.
It was a confrontation over dumped mail, postal service accountability, government waste, executive bonuses, and whether the people running the United States Postal Service are being held responsible when Americans cannot get their mail.
