There was a time when the conscious community was associated with history, culture, political education, African identity, spirituality, economics, and serious conversations about the condition of Black people.
But somewhere along the way, did parts of the movement become something completely different?
In this video, we’re talking about the increasingly bizarre claims, conspiracy theories, historical revisionism, personality cults, internet beefs, and endless attempts to prove who is the “most conscious.” At what point does questioning mainstream narratives become rejecting evidence altogether? And when does consciousness stop being about learning and start becoming entertainment?
This isn’t about attacking everyone in the conscious community. There are still serious scholars, researchers, organizers, cultural practitioners, and educators doing important work. The question is whether some of the loudest voices online are damaging the credibility of the entire movement.
