In this video, I react to a Vox report examining the Republican Party’s political position heading into the midterm elections and whether President Donald Trump could help or hurt GOP candidates in November.
Vox’s Astead Herndon travels to Ohio to cover a town hall with Vivek Ramaswamy, the former presidential candidate and DOGE leader who is now running for governor. The report argues that some Republican candidates are distancing themselves from Trump as concerns grow about the economy, the president’s approval ratings, and the political environment facing the GOP.
I break down Vox’s narrative, what voters at the Ramaswamy event actually have to say, and whether there is real evidence that Trump’s base is beginning to fracture—or whether the media is once again overstating Republican problems ahead of an election.
