Boosie went viral talking about church.
Not criticizing it. Remembering it. The song was “Jesus Is on the Mainline.” The preacher who took that extra breath. The one who’d wipe his forehead and you’d hear the tune coming. And the detail most people don’t know — his grandfather was a preacher, and Boosie was raised in the church house.
He went back about four months ago. His grandfather’s picture is still on the wall. And he says it was looking at him the same way the man used to.
Stacy Washington’s response is the reason to watch this one.
Stacy hosts Stacy on the Right on SiriusXM. Her point isn’t that Boosie is a hypocrite. It’s a genuine question: he remembers the music, the mannerisms, the voice, the intonation. All of it stayed with him. But what scripture was applied? What did he learn about Jesus that would have kept him from making the music he makes now?
Her verdict is generous — the fact that he’s reminiscing about it warmly at all is a step in the right direction, and it’s not too late for him.
She also names what she thinks happened. He got a good start. Then his father died and no other man stepped in to exert authority over a strong-willed kid, and he ran wild. Boosie says it himself: if my daddy was here, I probably wouldn’t have gotten a lick of trouble my whole life.
On children and authority. John asks directly whether kids should fear their parents. Stacy’s answer starts somewhere unexpected — with the sensitive child, the one who cries more and reads the room, which she says is an indicator of high intelligence and needs extra parenting and a lot of scripture poured in.
But her core argument is that a child has to respond to a parent’s voice before that voice can protect them. If you yell stop and they’re near the street. If they’re at an outlet you haven’t childproofed. And later, when there’s an opportunity to steal — if they fear you, they’ll respect authority, and if they respect authority, they stay out of places that change who a person is.
Then the story that changed how she and her husband parented. They’d committed to never spanking. Her oldest was strong-willed and Stacy was going to bed crying from the exhaustion of it. Then her husband’s aunt — chain smoker, mouth like a sailor — called out of the blue from Alaska, asked how the kids were, and delivered one line that Stacy took as sent from God.
She went to the library, read Dobson’s The Strong-Willed Child, and came back with a very different approach — firm, mild, early, and tapering to nothing by age ten. And the thing she says matters more than any of it: have them memorize scripture, because it civilizes a child from the inside out.
And the part nobody expects. Boosie got criticized on Instagram for saying he pays his tithes. Stacy’s answer is that every generationally wealthy person she’s ever met — Christian, Jewish, Muslim, whatever they are — believes in giving. Not the flash-in-the-pan wealthy. The long-term wealthy. They understand they can’t outgive God.
She takes it to the parable of the talents, and to why the servant who buried his was called wicked. Her argument: the principle isn’t about being a millionaire. It’s about diligence with whatever you were handed, and what compounds from there.
