According to court documents, Osman allegedly attempted to persuade a woman connected to one of the deceased firearm owners to sign a statement claiming he had permission to possess or take a gun. The woman reportedly told investigators that she never gave him that permission and feared a document bearing a forged signature might be submitted.
But the criminal charges are only part of the controversy.
🔴 **THE QUESTIONABLE ADDRESS:** The Maine Wire previously investigated Osman’s claimed residence at 210 Blake Street, reporting that the building was condemned as unfit for human habitation and belonged to his brother, Rilwan Osman. Questions about whether Osman actually lived in the ward he represented prompted a city residency investigation, which was discontinued following his resignation.
🔴 **THE NONPROFIT AND MAINE SHOOTING VICTIMS’ FUND:** Osman was also connected to the Lewiston Auburn Youth Network, a nonprofit that reportedly received $65,000 from funds distributed following the October 2023 Lewiston mass shooting that killed 18 people. NewsNation’s reporting raised questions about approximately $1.9 million distributed to 29 nonprofits rather than directly to victims and their families. Survivors and relatives expressed outrage over how the money was allocated. The funding controversy does not, by itself, establish that Osman or his nonprofit committed fraud.
🔴 **THE ORIGINAL GUN CASE:** A December 2025 grand jury indictment accused Osman of theft and receiving stolen property involving firearms or explosive devices associated with two estates. Osman has denied the criminal allegations.
From a disputed residential address to nonprofit funding questions, a city council resignation, felony gun charges, and now a new arrest, the controversy surrounding Iman Osman continues to grow.
