Rep. Ilhan Omar is facing new scrutiny after refusing to answer questions about a police raid on the Minneapolis home shared by her 20-year-old son, Adnan Hirsi, and his roommate, convicted felon Abdulrahman Abdi. According to Fox News, Minneapolis police executed a search warrant on August 25 and discovered multiple firearms and ammunition at the residence after authorities allegedly found a firearm connected to Abdi following an earlier traffic stop. Abdi, 22, has reportedly been arrested 10 times and has a prior felony speeding conviction, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm. Neither Ilhan Omar nor her son has been accused of wrongdoing in connection with the weapons, but Omar declined to respond when reporters asked what she knew about the raid and whether she would advise her son to move away from the situation. The controversy is drawing additional attention because Omar has long advocated for stricter gun-control measures, including red flag laws and closing what she describes as the gun-show loophole. As questions surrounding Adnan Hirsi’s roommate and the police raid continue, Omar’s refusal to publicly address the incident is fueling criticism and renewed political scrutiny.
