I still have hope—but now I understand what he meant.
Politics is a game, and the snakes always come. Some people show up pretending to support the mission when they are really looking for access, influence, money or an opportunity to advance themselves.
They smile in your face, study your moves and wait for the moment they can use what you built.
You can expose the corruption, trace the money and warn people repeatedly. But you cannot force anyone to care—and you cannot keep people around when you constantly have to second-guess their loyalty.
Pay attention. Protect the mission. Move accordingly.
Save your mind.
Save your family.
Save your community.
Save yourself.
