🚨 ZOE RANT | WHAT ARE WE DEFENDING THE VOTE FOR?
Thousands gathered in Washington, D.C. for the 2026 March on Washington: “Defend the Vote.”
Voting rights matter — but Zoe has another question:
What have Black communities actually gotten for our vote?
For decades, Black voters have overwhelmingly supported Democratic candidates. Yet Black homeownership nationally remains around 46%, compared with roughly 73% for white households.
So where is the urgency around Black homeownership?
Black business ownership?
Generational wealth?
Violence in our neighborhoods?
Seniors struggling to keep their homes?
Small businesses trying to survive?
The original 1963 March on Washington was the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
Voting is a tool — not the final measure of progress.
It’s time to measure political power by what our communities OWN, what we BUILD, how SAFE our neighborhoods are, and what we leave the next generation.
