The Donald Trump administration recently announced the end of Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for 500,000 Haitians currently living in the United States. TPS was first granted in 2010 after the devastation caused by a massive earthquake in that country. The end of TPS would also end the ability to work legally in the US and if upheld will force thousands of people to return to a country which Trump says is safe, but which is in turmoil caused by violent paramilitary groups. Our guest is Guerline Jozef, founder and Executive Director of Haitian Bridge Alliance, an organization that advocates for fair and humane immigration policies and connects migrants with humanitarian, legal, and social services. She joins us from San Diego, California to discuss the impact of this proposed change on the Haitian immigrant community and the legal efforts being waged to fight the end of TPS.
