Rest in Peace, Malcolm-Jamal Warner (1970-2025)

We lost a true pioneer on July 20, 2025. Malcolm-Jamal Warner, beloved for his role as Theo Huxtable on “The Cosby Show,” passed away at age 54 in Costa Rica.

Warner’s impact on Black representation in media cannot be overstated. As Theo, he showed the world that Black boys could be intelligent, vulnerable, and multidimensional—breaking away from harmful stereotypes that had dominated television. His portrayal gave an entire generation of Black youth someone to see themselves in.

Beyond “The Cosby Show,” Warner continued challenging norms through his work on “Malcolm & Eddie,” “The Resident,” and as a director and musician. He consistently chose roles that expanded the narrative of Black masculinity in media.

His legacy lives on in every young Black actor who now has broader opportunities because Warner helped pave the way. He didn’t just entertain—he transformed how America saw Black men on screen.
