Why Big Tech Is Suing Chicago Over a New Social Media Tax

Title: Chicago Is Now Taxing Social Media

Chicago just created the first tax in America on social media users — and people should be paying attention.

Mayor Brandon Johnson pushed a policy that charges companies like TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and X a tax for every Chicago user after the first 100,000 people.

Think about what that means.

The government is now taxing platforms based on how many people are speaking, sharing ideas, and communicating online.

That should raise serious First Amendment questions.

The U.S. Supreme Court already ruled in 1983 that government cannot single out publishers and communication platforms for special taxes. That’s why these companies are now suing the city.

But here’s the bigger issue.

Chicago doesn’t have a revenue problem — it has a leadership problem.

Property taxes are through the roof. Crime is out of control. Businesses are leaving the city. And instead of fixing those problems, City Hall keeps inventing new taxes.

Chicago residents are tired of being treated like an ATM.

If leaders in this city won’t fix the system, the people will.

Chicago Flips Red.

All hands on deck.
