Walgreens is closing its Chatham location at 71st and Jeffrey after losing over $1 million in a single year — with theft running at 16%, four times the company average. The store spent $400,000 annually on security guards alone while employees were jumped, spit on, and robbed over the counter daily. It’s not just Walgreens. Walmart closed 4 Chicago stores citing tens of millions in losses. Whole Foods shuttered 2 locations. A single organized theft ring stole $7.5 million from Target, CVS, and Walgreens — shipping stolen goods by the pallet to California and New York to resell online.
