In a recent broadcast on his own channel, Van Lathan (Higher Learning) dropped a brilliant analysis on the psychology of Black identity, arguing that no profession or title should ever subjugate your duty to your community. Whether you are a cop, an athlete, or a comedian, the culture expects you to stand in the gap.
I completely agree with his logic—but in this segment, we drop a major point of correction.
Why does this rule of accountability completely vanish when it comes to the political system?. If we are truly putting our community first, we have to apply Van’s logic to the political machine. For 60 years, Black voters have automatically handed over their support to a political establishment that hasn’t closed the racial wealth gap by more than a single penny. Actually, 7 pennies, but who’s counting?
Are today’s Black media figures identity-first, or are they partisan-first?. It’s time to call out the ultimate “end around” and stop treating a corporate political machine like a neighborhood institution. As I always say: “It’s a white party, goofies!”.
