World Cup entry denied: Homeland security secretary Mullin defends blocking US entry

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin defended the department’s decisions to block several World Cup participants from entering the U.S., including a Somalian referee and an Iraqi team staff member.

Mullin says the decisions were based on concerns over “criminal ties” or “perceived” criminal ties and reassures that the department is working closely with FIFA to ensure fair vetting.

He would not, however, give any details on what those reasons were.
