I’ve got one question: what working-class Black people does Joy Reid actually know?
Because I’m from the DMV: DC, Maryland, Virginia. And every 4th of July I can remember, Black folks were barbecuing, throwing crabs on the grill, and risking a ticket to light fireworks Maryland says we can’t even have. We don’t sit at the cookout reading the encyclopedia. We get it in.
This isn’t about whether the 4th is complicated. It’s about who keeps getting handed the microphone to speak for ALL of us — and why the people who know the least about working-class Black America are always the loudest about it.
