Wesley Hunt read the names of Americans killed after sanctuary policy and immigration enforcement failures, then confronted Democrats for defending people who had no business being in the country.
Hunt named Sheridan Gorman, Katie Abraham, Chloe, Lincoln, Joselyn, Rachel, Megan, Elizabeth, Dara, and others while arguing that these were real Americans, real families, and real futures that should never have been lost.
Then Hunt turned the hearing toward sanctuary policies, ICE detainers, local law enforcement, and Democrat leaders who refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.
He cited New York releasing nearly 7,000 people subject to ICE detainers in just 10 months, including cases connected to murders, assaults, burglaries, robberies, and other serious crimes.
Then Hunt said he was disgusted by colleagues who fight harder for people who have no business being here than for the Americans harmed by those failures.
From there, Hunt questioned the sheriff about California, Governor Gavin Newsom, sanctuary policies, and whether it is normal for a governor or attorney general to pressure law enforcement not to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.
The sheriff’s answer cut straight through the hearing:
Stop championing the criminals and start championing the victims.
That line became the center of the exchange.
This hearing was about sanctuary cities, ICE cooperation, law enforcement, public safety, Gavin Newsom, New York releases, California leadership, Democrat immigration policy, federal detainers, American families, and whether elected officials are protecting citizens first.
