I’m Black American Not FBA , Here’s Why

In this video, I break down why I identify as Black American, not FBA, and why I believe the term Black American still carries history, culture, struggle, survival, creativity, and legacy. With so many new identity labels being used in our community, from FBA to ADOS, Moors, Hebrews, Indigenous Americans, and more, it is time to have an honest conversation about who we are, what we call ourselves, and why these names matter.

This is not about disrespecting anyone’s personal identity. It is about asking a deeper question: are we building clarity, unity, and power, or are we creating more division and confusion? Black American identity is already rich. It includes our Southern roots, our migration stories, our music, our food, our churches, our movements, our pain, our victories, and our global influence.

Through my travels across Africa and my work with Danfo, I have seen how identity shifts when Black Americans reconnect with the continent. At Danfo, we curate intentional travel experiences across Africa that help people engage with culture, history, ancestry, and community beyond the surface.

Visit Danfo.Africa to learn more about our upcoming curated experiences throughout Africa.
