Kennedy read the language back to her, including references to “racist white southerners” and “hostile white voters,” then asked her to explain which polling places were supposedly threatening Black voters. Abudu said she helped draft and approved the report, but said she did not remember the language and could not answer without seeing more context.
The exchange then moved into voter ID, election security, and whether requiring photo identification to vote serves a legitimate state interest. Kennedy pressed her on statements from another SPLC report arguing that voter ID was burdensome and did not serve any legitimate state interest.
