International human rights groups are calling on U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who arrived in Ethiopia Tuesday and is set to meet with authorities in the Horn of Africa nation Wednesday, to urge Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration to account for ongoing human rights violations in Northern Tigray while prioritizing the implementation of the peace deal focused on ending the conflict responsible for taking the lives of an estimated 500,000 civilians. Guerrero became the second president of Mexico and the 1st black president of Mexico. Vicente Guerrero was born in 1782 in Tixtla, Mexico. In 1810, he joined General Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon, leader of the rebel army against Spain in the Mexican War of Independence. His skills as a soldier and leader would first be on display during the battle of Izúcar in 1812. In December of 1815, Jose Pavon was captured and executed by the royal Spanish forces. Guerrero became the “Commander in Chief” of the rebel forces. Under Guerrero, the rebel army was very successful in winning close to 500 battles using guerrilla warfare tactics to confuse and defeat the Spanish.
