MULTIPLE Democratic officials are facing serious federal FRAUD and MONEY-LAUNDERING charges—and it’s happening as the Democratic National Committee confronts a major financial disadvantage heading toward the 2026 midterms.
In Massachusetts, Democratic State Rep. Francisco Paulino was arrested after a federal grand jury indicted him on 11 counts, including eight counts of wire fraud and three counts of money laundering.

Federal prosecutors allege Paulino fraudulently obtained more than $700,000 in pandemic unemployment benefits and small-business loans before he entered the state legislature.
Prosecutors claim some of that money was used for real-estate expenses, loan payments and transfers into his political campaign account.
And he’s not the only Massachusetts political figure facing federal charges.
Lawrence Mayor Brian DePeña was separately charged with wire fraud and money laundering after prosecutors alleged he fraudulently obtained more than $1.5 MILLION in COVID-era small-business loans.
