Heather Schwab received a 20-year maximum prison sentence in Texas for fraud connected to a years-long pattern of squatting across North Texas and Colorado. Schwab, who had been evicted at least 26 times in North Texas alone, used the stolen identity of a person named Ray Roybal to pass background checks and sign rental agreements, then moved into properties without paying. One victim, Jessica Davis of Rowlett, had rented her home to Schwab in 2017 before discovering the fraud when checks bounced within three days. CBS News Texas had been tracking Schwab since 2017 and documented at least 20 evictions over 17 years. Dallas County District Attorney Amber Moore prosecuted the case on fraud charges rather than squatting, which is typically a civil matter. Schwab’s attorney argued she was a mother of five surviving in a cycle. The judge offered no leniency.
