Maxine Waters is 87 years old and just announced she’s running for re-election. If she wins, she’ll be 90 in office. She’s the second oldest person in Congress behind Chuck Grassley, who’s 92 and has been in the Senate since 1981.
Her response to anyone who says she should step aside? “I am Auntie Maxine.”
That’s not a policy. That’s not a plan. That’s a nickname blue Democrats gave you. Half her constituents live on Skid Row — and it’s still Skid Row after 50 years. Even members of her own party are privately complaining she won’t elevate anyone, won’t play well with others, and won’t contribute to party fundraising.
And she’s not the only one. Hal Rogers, 88. Eleanor Holmes Norton, 88. Pelosi, 85. Clyburn, 85. Bernie Sanders, 84. Mitch McConnell, 84. All of them need to call it a day. None of them are going out in a blaze of glory fighting for us.
