The MOVE Bombing: Decades Later with Mike Africa Jr (Throwback)

“Never forget the day the City of Philadelphia dropped a bomb on its own people.”

On May 13, 1985, the world witnessed an unprecedented act of domestic state terrorism when the Philadelphia Police Department dropped a satchel bomb on a row house occupied by the MOVE organization. The resulting fire killed 11 people—including five children—and destroyed 61 homes, leaving an entire neighborhood in ashes.

In this special commemoration on Black Power Media, host Kalonji Changa is joined by Mike Africa Jr., a child of MOVE who has dedicated his life to the exoneration of his parents and the preservation of the organization’s true history.

This is more than a history lesson; it is a profound discussion on state violence, the resilience of the Africa family, and the ongoing struggle for revolutionary justice in the face of systemic oppression.
