But instead of sober reflection, accountability, and a pursuit of truth, we are now watching another narrative being built in real time. Alexander, the so-called advocate and spokesperson for the Anthony family, went on television and claimed that this verdict proves “Black lives do not matter” in Collin County. But here is the problem: no Black life was lost in this incident.
Austin Metcalf, a 17-year-old young man, is dead. Karmelo Anthony was convicted by a jury. The defense argued self-defense and failed to prove it. And now, instead of dealing honestly with the facts, racial grievance is once again being used to manipulate emotions, avoid accountability, and stoke division.
